Description:

This kitchen and living room remodel was done within a 1970's split-level home for a young family of three. The existing kitchen was closed off from the rest of the living space and stylistically was out of date. We started by removing all of the existing cabinets and walls to open the space up. The center island, which contains the stove and cooktop also has a built in butcher-block counter top for prepping food as well as a serving bar topped with a reclaimed walnut wood slab sourced from local trees. The budget for the project was limited, so we strategically combined custom and semi-custom cabinet pieces to keep the cost down. Open shelves take the place of wall cabinets with doors. A surface mounted cabinet with a large flip up door hides appliances such as toasters, blenders, coffee makers, etc. when they are not in use.
